At the hour of Moscow hot sunset on the eve of the month of August, when asphalt of the streets glowed up to the limit, somewhere after five, guests and participants of exhibition project ‘THE PORTRAIT OF RUSSIAN FINE WORD’ were hurrying to Marina Tsvetaeva Memorial Museum.

All the three exhibitions halls on the main floor had been crowded already, the parquet floors of the old Moscow mansion keenly responded to the steps of each new visitor; the OTR TV-channel cameraman who was making the video of the opening day was annoyed with trembling and jerks of his camera caused by steps of spectators flowing in.

The public weary of the merciless sun were eager to quench their thirst: some people headed straight to cooling drinks, others turned to have a closer look at the artists’ works displayed at the exhibition.

The project presentation was held in the concert hall of Marina Tsvetaeva Memorial Museum; the guests were greeted by Nadezhda Ivanovna Fyodorova and Elena Ilyina, senior staff scientist of Marina Tsvetaeva Memorial Museum.

In the second part of the opening ceremony, contemporary Russian poets and writers, literary critics and culturologiests took the floor; editor of ‘POetov’ magazine Konstantin Kedrov introduced a famous society DOOS (Voluntary Society for the Protection of Dragonflies) and called the visitors’ attention to the poetic installation specially prepared by the poets for the exhibition opening day.

And so, soon after nine in the evening we all started to get back to our homes: artists and sculptors, poets and musicians, arts critics, members of the academies, students, architects, designers, writers, friends – the old and newly found, just spectators and regulars of the Museum.

And in the exhibition hall, all those stayed whom Marina Tsvetayeva wanted to see at her place:

Nikolay Mikhaylovich Karamzin,
Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin,
Mikhail Yurievich Lermontov,
Nikolay Vasilievich Gogol,
Lev Nikolayevich Tolstoy,
Nikolay Grigirievich Chernyshevskiy,
Anna Andreyevna Akhmatova,
Vladimir Vladimirovich Nabokov,
Alexander Block and Mikhail Bulgakov,
Vladimir Mayakovskiy and Sergey Yesenin,
Iosif Brodskiy and Osip Mandelshtam,
Vladimir Semionovich Vysotskiy and
Fiodor Mikhailovich Dostoyevskiy.

It is they who are the main persons of the exhibition.
Marina Tsvetayeva had written wonderful lines about many of them, singing of their Heavenly flying, their indestructible ‘Seraph’s Wings’.

Perhaps that was the reason why they all found themselves together on the opening day of the exhibition, on THE SAINT'S DAY OF MARINA IVANOVNA TSVETAYEVA, on memorial day of miraculous Saint Margarita (Marina) of Antioch…
So one can only dream up and imagine what the Long Night of the Museum wasin Borisoglebskiy Pereulok in Moscow, the night fromthe 30th  to the 31th of July…

Nevertheless one way or another, as all the visitors of the exhibition say, one thing is absolutely clear:
the characters of the displayed works, all of them belong to the Kingdom of Heaven.

While we… contemporary Russian artists and sculptors…
quietly we are getting away to out studios,
in order that to go on with solving the mystery of the Great Russian Word,
to go on with painting, drawing and sculpturing
the Portrait of Russian Fine Word.
